Our church in Old Lyme, Connecticut
has a mission partnership with the community of Beit Sahour near
Bethlehem. We have had the privilege of visiting their community,
and for the last two years we have welcomed young people from the
communities of Beit Sahour and Beit Jala to our community in a program we
call "Building Bridges of Hope".
This program, initiated a year ago
has helped to build a beautiful bridge of friendship between our two
communities and has helped us to come to a better understanding of our
respective cultures.
While here, the young people stay
with our church families, take part in a variety of activities - swimming
in Long Island Sound, visiting New York City and Washington DC, picnics,
visiting with members of the local Mosque and Synagogues, and many other
engaging activities.
We believe this program has helped us
to deepen our mutual understanding, and has helped us all to move beyond
whatever preconceived stereotypes we may have had of one another.
The young people who have taken part
in this program have been wonderful ambassadors of peace and
reconciliation, and have represented their culture and community
extraordinarily well.
PLEASE WELCOME THEM.
