Our hope is that children will: Ø learn that God created heaven and earth out of love, and that we are all part of God’s loving creation Ø feel the unbounded love of God around them, through them, and within them Ø learn that Jesus Christ was a gift of love from God, and through him we know how God wants us to live our lives. Ø learn that the Bible is a book that is applicable to our modern lives. Ø learn that all people in the world are equal members of God’s family and should be valued, respected, and treated with dignity. Ø develop a growing spirituality based on prayer and being in community with one another Ø learn to listen to others thoughtfully and respectfully
In cooperation with parents, we: Ø communicate a way of thinking about God as a personal, loving force “in whom we live and breathe and have our being.” Ø see Jesus Christ as “God’s Living Word” in our daily lives and to put our faith in to action. Ø create a church school community that exemplifies hospitality Ø welcome questions and describe faith as a life-long journey – rather than a fixed destination Ø encourage our youth to cross boundaries of culture, income, race, religion, and nation Ø encourage spiritual practices in daily life such as prayer, volunteerism, study of scripture, that can form the basis of lifelong faith development.
Our Classroom Covenant
I have a right… To be treated with kindness in this room. This means that no one will laugh at me, or ignore me. I will be welcomed.
I have a right… To be myself in this room. This means that people will treat me with respect. I will be valued.
I have a right… To be safe in this room. This means that no one will hit me, kick me, push me, or pinch me. I will be able to reach out.
I have a right… To hear and be heard in this room. This means that no one will yell – scream—or shout. And my ideas, opinions, and dreams will be considered. I will have a voice.
I have a right… To learn about myself in this room. This means that I will be free to express my feelings and opinion without being interrupted or ignored. I will learn from my teachers, my peers, and they from me.
