”Helping Hands, Loving Hearts”
Dear Friends, I hope you are having a wonderful summer filled with rest and relaxation. The summer months move so quickly and here we are thinking about Sunday School again! We will begin on Sunday, September 13th at the 9 am service. Once again, we will set up in the Fellowship Hall to receive your registrations. There will be popcorn, balloons, and friendly faces! Children will proceed to their classes as usual after the children’s lesson. If you cannot make it on the 13th, please fill out the attached registration form and mail it to us by the 13th , and we will register your child for you. Registration Sunday is such a joyful time in the life of our church, as we gather together again to begin a new school year. We welcome all children anytime during the school year. You will notice that we changed the name of the program from “Spirit Quest” to God’s Neighborhood. Kendall and I thought that this name and concept better represents the theology, ideas, and activities of our program. God’s Neighborhood is a wonderful image for the children as they think about Sunday School, their local and broader communities and our world. Our theme for the year, “Helping Hands, Loving Hearts,” thoughtfully conveys how one should live within God’s Neighborhood – suggesting that both the inward development of a spiritual life and the outward practice of putting our faith into action are important in our journey in life. Our church has a strong sense of mission, and we believe that our young children enjoy participating in many mission based projects. We emphasize that every act of kindness, work of social justice, or practice of earthly conservation has value and is important. Diversity is an important part of our understanding of God’s Neighborhood. We will continue with our Diversity Sundays approximately every 6 weeks. We have lined up several very exciting programs for the fall. On October 4, as part of our celebration of God’s creation, we have invited the “Wind over Wings” bird rehabilitation program to come and share some of their raptors with us. Yes, there will be an eagle in the Fellowship Hall! We have lots of opportunities for parents to get involved. Parent involvement sends a wonderful message to our children about the importance of Christian education and building faith communities. There are regular weekly opportunities to serve and there are also one–time commitments. I would be happy to talk to you about our program and our areas of need. On Registration Sunday, there will be time to discuss volunteer opportunities with you. Our back to school picnic will be on Sunday, September 27 at Camp Claire from 3 pm to 6 pm. There will be games and activities for the children and volley ball for families. We will provide grilled chicken and drinks, so please bring a dish to share. There will be more details to follow in the church bulletins to come. I hope you can join the fun! I regularly communicate with you through our email system. If you are not getting emails through the “Sunday School Families” email system, and you want to be included in that communication, please send me your email at rtcros@ftcrosby.com. This is the quickest and most cost effective way to communicate with all of you. If you do not have an email and would like to stay in touch with our activities, please let me know, and I will send the email to you by mail. We hope to see you on September 13th!
My very best to all of you, Becky

Parent Involvement
We have lots of opportunities for parents to get involved. Parent involvement sends a wonderful message to our children about the importance of Christian education and building faith communities. There are regular weekly opportunities to serve and there are also one–time commitments. Becky would be happy to talk to you about our program and our areas of need. On Registration Sunday, there will be time to discuss volunteer opportunities with you. We hope to see you this fall, and we hope to meet you in person on September 7th. We are excited about this new year in Spirit Quest, and hope that we, together, can nurture our children in their growing Christian faith and their identities as ‘citizens of the world.’
Blessings to you and your family,
